About Us

The Missouri Transportation Institute (MTI) is a multi-modal and multi-disciplinary consortium of 10 public and private Missouri universities and the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT). MTI is housed at the Missouri University of Science and Technology. The primary purpose of MTI is to be a premiere transportation research and technology entity that harnesses the richness of knowledge contained within our universities to provide real solutions to the state's transportation issues.  We also aspire to be the transportation policy and planning "think tank" for Missouri.

MTI conducts cutting-edge transportation technology, policy, planning, materials, and security research. MTI is also the focal point for transportation technology transfer in the state.

MTI's Goals:

  • Be a premiere multi-modal transportation research, development, education, and technology transfer entity
  • Be an objective multi-modal transportation safety, public policy and planning think tank for the state of Missouri
  • Develop multi-modal and interdisciplinary transportation managers
  • Integrate transportation and economic development opportunities for Missouri
  • Develop transportation security options that respond to today's global security challenges
  • Facilitate partnerships that will provide the best solutions to the nation's transportation research needs
  • Partner with key stakeholders and the private sector to advance transportation in Missouri
  • Develop educational and training opportunities for the Missouri transportation workforce

Vision

The vision of MTI is to be a multimodal and interdisciplinary entity that harnesses the richness of the universities to understand the changes and to provide real solutions to MoDOT and the state's transportation issues. MTI will also provide educational and technology transfer opportunities for students and the public interested in resolving actual transportation problems. In time, MTI will provide Missouri with a transportation institute capable of competing with other states universities to lead transportation research and policy development and direction.
