The Missouri Transportation Institute (MTI) was established in 2004 in an agreement between the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission and the Curators of the University of Missouri to create a nationally-recognized transportation research center in Missouri.  

MTI is located at Missouri S&T and provides a collaborative environment in which to conduct research in response to the wide range of transportation issues facing the state and the nation. Working in partnership with the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), our sister campuses within the University of Missouri system, and the Missouri S&T National University Transportation Center (NUTC); MTI seeks to elevate transportation research within the state of Missouri to a national level. 

MTI brings private industry leaders to the table to partner on transportation research in response to MoDOT’s needs as well as national-level projects sponsored by the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP), the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), and the U.S. Department of Transportation Research and Innovative Technologies Administration (US DOT RITA).
